Details of proposed activities

• To discharge contaminants into the air from the operation and maintenance of a sulphuric acid and fertiliser manufacturing plant at Awatoto including all ancillary activities under Rule 28 – Regional Resource Management Plan (RRMP);
• To discharge contaminants into water for the purpose of disposing of stormwater, cooling water from air compressors and a hydraulic drive, water from drinking fountains and a truck wash, water from cooling towers and high pressure boilers, and rinse water from a boiler water treatment plant into the Tūtaekurī River (Waitangi Estuary) under Rule 9 of the Regional Coastal Environmental Plan (RCEP) and Reg 54 (c) of the National Environmental Standard for Freshwater (NESFW);
• To take water from well no’s. 15986 and 15989 (150 mm diameters) for use in the manufacture of sulphuric acid and fertilisers, irrigation of crops and to sustain an artificial wetland and the Waitangi Estuary under Rule 35 of the RCEP;
• To discharge treated stormwater and process water and associated contaminants from a sulphuric acid and fertiliser manufacturing plant at Awatoto to land in circumstances where contaminants will be absorbed by crops and soils and/or may enter shallow groundwater under Rule 52 of the RRMP and Rule TANK 22;
• To temporarily discharge dewatering water associated with the construction of new stormwater and process water treatment facilities onto or into land and into water (Waitangi Estuary) in the Coastal Margin under Rule 9 of the RCEP;
• To temporarily take groundwater by dewatering associated with construction of new stormwater and process water treatment facilities under rule 55 of RRMP;
• Vegetation clearance and soil disturbance activities in the Coastal Margin associated with: the erection, reconstruction, placement, alteration, extension, removal, or demolition of stormwater and process water treatment and discharge structures; and wetland restoration activities under Reg 54 (b), Reg 42 and Reg 39 of NESFW and Rule 8 of the RCEP.
