This report presents the findings of an analysis of the character of terrestrial ecology values of the Karamu Stream Catchment. In this context the character description focuses on the qualities and peculiarities of terrestrial ecology values across the Catchment.
The project scope also includes consideration of specific terrestrial ecology values associated with the waterways of the Karamu Catchment and the risks to those values associated with future changes in waterway flow regimes.
Wetlands are a much reduced and important habitat type, and are rare at both national and regional scales. As site specific rather than catchment scale investigations are required, full inclusion of wetland habitats is beyond the scope of this report. Instead, fauna and flora values of wetlands are touched upon, in particular those species with terrestrial attributes. Other important elements such as wetland types and hydrology remain to be assessed on a site specific basis.
