Environmental Officer Compliance (Vacancy 19-286)

Hawke's Bay Regional Council (HBRC) is the regional authority for the Hawke's Bay region in New Zealand with key roles in environmental management and education; flood control, drainage, pollution, waste, land, water and coastal management. Supporting approximately 160,000 residents, Council's vision is to enable a healthy environment, a vibrant community and a prosperous economy. 

About the opportunity:

As an Environmental Officer Compliance you will undertake monitoring of environmental resource consents issued by the Regional Council including follow up and reporting. On occasion the role will require you to investigate an offence and prepare documentation for enforcement. The role may include an after-hours on call component. The successful candidate will have a good understanding of the environmental issues affecting the Hawke’s Bay region and a proven ability to effectively deal with conflict.

The salary range for suitable candidates that meet the requirements for this role is $69,210 - $78,438 depending on qualifications and experience.

About you:

You will work well in a team have effective communication skills and an ability to build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Relevant experience in resource management, agriculture, horticulture or a related field supported by a science based tertiary qualification and/or previous experience in the enforcement field is desirable. 

• Understanding of the Resource Management Act.
• Knowledge of Farming Systems and Farm Environmental Plans.
• High level of Microsoft office and computer skills.
• A clean full driver’s licence. 
• Have the legal right to work in New Zealand.
