Team Leader Open Spaces

This pivotal role will see you responsible for providing day to day management of the Open Space function and team and building effective working relationships.

You will be overseeing various Council portfolios, including Regional Parks, Forestry as well as over a hundred kilometres in cycle tracks and pathways.

More specifically, your key duties will include (but will not be limited to):

• Providing effective and timely input into a variety of Council processes including strategic planning and budgeting requirements;
• Planning and development of Regional Parks and ensuring they all have management plans proposed or in effect;
• Ensuring parks, walkways and river recreation are effectively managed and planning is effective and timely; and
• Providing regular reporting of performance and issues to senior management.

The successful candidate will have Tertiary qualifications in open space or an environmental field, which may include Bachelor of Science, Engineering or Urban Design. You must have previous experience in managing open space and/or park assets and/or stream enhancement initiatives. Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite will be essential. This role will be suited to a confident and enthusiastic leader who exhibits exceptional communication and interpersonal skills as you will be required to interact with a variety of stakeholders - from frontline staff to politicians, landowners and tangata whenua. Importantly, this role requires someone who is extremely passionate about the environment and protecting the region's precious taonga of rivers, lakes, soils, air and coast. Having a good understanding of the Hawkes Bay region, in particular, the rivers around the region and how they work will be advantageous.

Please note: Although this is a predominantly office based role there will be times you will need to travel around the region, as such you must have a current drivers licence.
