Hawke’s Bay Regional Council science staff are looking forward to seeing this year’s entries for the Hawke’s Bay Regional Science & Technology Fair.
Hawke’s Bay Regional Council is a long time sponsor of the Fair, and each year awards prizes for projects exhibiting “an excellent contribution to environmental awareness and understanding”. Past winners have covered topics including the Ruataniwha Dam and water quality in streams.
“Hawke’s Bay Regional Council is the biggest employer of scientists in our region. It is more than likely that, in the future, we’ll be welcoming some of these students into the council’s science team, so we are proud to invest in our future science leaders through this Fair,” says Sally Chandler, Environmental Education Coordinator.
HBRC Science Manager Stephen Swabey will be presenting to the winners of the HBRC prizes at the awards evening. The prize giving will take place at the EIT Whare, Taradale on Thursday 16 August, commencing at 7 pm.
Three members of the HBRC science team are again part of this year’s judging panel. Judging of video entries from senior students is already underway, and on Friday 10 August they will be judging student’s Project Panel entries. These panels present students’ research and findings on topics of their choice.
A total of 25 schools from across the region are represented at this year’s event, with students from year 7 upwards. This event has other categories for students to be challenged by, such as the sciPAD Technology Challenge, Apple and Pears Science Quiz, and a Titration Competition.
