The carpark and visitor area at Pekapeka Regional Park will be closed to visitors this weekend as it is the opening weekend of the gamebird hunting season.
This closure is a long standing agreement the Pekapeka Shooters Association who have maimais in the swamp, and who have helped the council with enhancement projects in the wetland.
As a safety measure, the park gates will be closed from 4pm Friday 4 May, and reopen the following Monday morning. Notices will be placed on the gates.
The visitor area will be open for all other weekends during the game bird season.
