As an Environmental Compliance Officer, you’ll play a pivotal role in ensuring compliance with resource consents issued by the Regional Council. This exciting and varied role involves actively monitoring consents, liaising with consent holders, and reporting on outcomes. You’ll also investigate environmental offences, prepare documentation for enforcement actions, and contribute to maintaining the Council's Selected Land Use Register.
With your specialised knowledge of pollution issues, compliance, and enforcement processes, you’ll ensure deadlines are met, collaborate effectively with Council teams, and support the continuous improvement of business processes. Your strong customer focus will help foster positive relationships with industry sector groups and stakeholders. As part of this role, you’ll also participate in our after-hours pollution response roster, offering a unique opportunity to be at the forefront of incident response and environmental protection.
You will possess strong analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills, along with proficiency in MS Office tools and environmental monitoring data interpretation. Ideally you will have a relevant bachelor’s degree or equivalent tertiary qualification in Science, Law or Environmental Resource Management and experience with the Resource Management Act, compliance processes, and managing industrial discharges. Additionally, we value excellent communication and interpersonal skills, a valid driver’s licence, and knowledge of tikanga Māori.
