About the opportunity| Ko te āheinga:

We are seeking an experienced Project Manager to join our Regional Projects team within the Asset Management Group at Hawke's Bay Regional Council. In this role, you will be responsible for the day-to-day delivery of infrastructure projects throughout the Hawke's Bay region. You will play a crucial part in delivering our capital program, contributing to the strategic direction of the Asset Management Group. This exciting, diverse and challenging work will give the right candidates an opportunity to be a key contributor to our Regional Projects team and to be involved in the region’s recovery work. You will be a crucial member of multidisciplinary teams, manage construction contracts, and ensure the successful delivery of projects from concept to implementation.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Contribute to the successful delivery of large and complex projects, drawing on your experience in similar projects
  • Taking projects through the entire lifecycle, from concept to close out, managing all aspects including design, cost estimates, procurement, project controls and construction
  • Contribute to multidisciplinary project teams
  • Encouraging innovative thinking and developing new ideas and approaches with the wider team and suppliers
  • Communicating positively and effectively to keep team members, managers and stakeholders
  • Developing and managing construction contracts (NZS3910) with both in-house resources and external contractors
  • Ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the specified scope and quality standards.

About you | E pā ana ki a koe:

You are a highly motivated professional with a relevant tertiary qualification in Engineering, Geology, or Environmental Studies, backed by post-graduate studies or professional certification. Your track record demonstrates successful delivery of infrastructure projects, preferably in local government, utilities, or consulting engineering. You possess strong project management skills, with a thorough understanding of project management frameworks, systems, and practices. Your expertise in contract documentation (NZS3910) and delivery of technically complex solutions, particularly in civil and earthworks, sets you apart. You have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, allowing you to build strong relationships with stakeholders at all levels. Your analytical mindset, coupled with sound judgment and initiative, enables you to solve problems effectively and make informed decisions. You are committed to continuous improvement, have a strong focus on health and safety, and demonstrate an understanding of tikanga Māori and its relevance to Regional Council functions.
