About the Opportunity:

We are looking for a Resource Analyst to join the Environmental Information Data Management team on a 12-month fixed-term contract, due to an internal secondment. This team is responsible for ensuring the Councils’ environmental data is accurate, quality coded and readily available for use by scientists and public.

 The Resource Analyst position sits within a team of six analysts across a variety of disciplines within the environmental data field. The main focus of the Resource Analyst is to ensure data gathered (by technicians and sensors) is accurate, and processes are improved enabling efficiencies, and reducing manual processing where possible.

 The specific data collected is used internally within the Council, and underpins the planning and completion of scientific, management and technical projects to support Council decisions and fulfil obligations.  The data is also used externally for national reporting and research, and for monitoring the state and effects in local waterbodies.

 The position is available as full-time, however part-time hours may be available for a candidate with the right experience.

 

About you:

 To be successful in this role you will have:

  • High attention to detail and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to dig through a problem, find the cause, fix and put processes in place to minimise the likelihood of a recurrence
  • Be comfortable using statistics and graphs
  • A practical and logical perspective
  • Understanding of fieldwork and the practicalities that are involved in environmental data capture
  • The ability to communicate clearly (both written and verbal) and interpret data/information
  • A working knowledge of the Resource Management Act and an appreciate and understanding of Tangata Whenua values, particularly with regard to land and water within the Council’s takiwa (region).

 In addition to the above your technical expertise will include:

  • A Tertiary qualification in an Environmental Science, Computer Science, or Physical Geography discipline and/or experience with data management and analysis
  • Knowledge of timeseries analysis
  • Ability to navigate technology and computer software
  • An interest in Resource Management and environmental data and information
  • Familiarity using R or other scripting languages would be an advantage
