Resource Technician - Water Quality and Ecology

About the Opportunity:

We are looking for a Resource Technician – Water Quality and Ecology. This is a full-time fixed term opportunity

to join the Environmental Information Team.

The Environmental Information Team gathers information to help understand changes in the health of freshwater and coastal ecosystems and identify the main threats to humans, animals or life in the water.

 

The role is a combination of field work and office-based responsibilities that involve:   

  • Undertaking river, lake, estuary and coastal water quality and ecology monitoring. 
  • Undertaking equipment and logger installation, maintenance and calibration.
  • Applying technical knowledge and scientific expertise to ensure monitoring programmes run effectively and to the required standards.
  • Use of digital software and scientific databases for data collection, processing and archiving.

About you:

The Water Quality and Ecology – Resource Technician position would suit a highly motivated and technically minded individual, with a passion for the freshwater and marine environment who is keen to apply their skills in a varied and primarily field-based role.

The successful candidate will have a relevant tertiary qualification, a full NZ drivers licence and a willingness to work alone in the field.  

Ideally you will also have:

  • Previous experience with field-based investigations and working around water.
  • A positive, hard-working attitude.
  • Competency driving a 4WD and manual transmission vehicle. 
  • Experience with freshwater and marine monitoring techniques, environmental equipment and data management processes.
