At Hawke’s Bay Regional Council our purpose is to work with our community to protect and manage the region’s precious taonga of rivers, lakes, soils, air, coast and biodiversity for health, wellbeing and connectivity. Our organisation is diverse and our work is varied. Our structure comprises of six key business units; Corporate Services, Integrated Catchment Management, Asset Management, Māori Partnerships, Policy & Regulation, and the Executive Advisory Group which also consists of the Civil Defence and Emergency Management.

About the Opportunity:

We have an exciting opportunity for a highly organised and innovative person to provide administrative support to the Hawke’s Bay Regional Council Works Group team based at our Guppy Road, Taradale site. Works Group is a standalone business unit wholly owned and operated by the HBRC.  The Group undertakes a range of activities based mainly around the Region’s rivers and drainage network. 

This is a full-time, fixed term role for 2 years.

This is an important support role that requires someone who has excellent customer services skills, an intuitive personality, and an ability to achieve high levels of accuracy. You will be someone who enjoys working with people and helping achieve team outcomes. The role will be well supported by our current coordinator who can show you the ropes and get you up to speed on what is required. 

You will need to be able to work effectively under pressure, be skilled in responding to a varied and diverse workload and have exceptional computer and communication skills. We would be keen to take on a recent school leaver in this entry level role, so that we can support you to develop and grow. 

 Ideally you will also:

  •  Have achieved NCEA level 2 including literacy and numeracy credits.
  • Show proficiency with computers, system administration and data entry. Excellent Microsoft Office (especially Word and Excel) software skills with the ability to trouble shoot problems would be helpful.
  • Show a highly motivated, reliable, calm, and flexible approach to your work. 
  • Be pro-active; someone who is prepared to look for solutions and improvement opportunities. 

The salary range for this role is between $48,060 to $53,400 and will depend on the experience of the successful candidate. Other benefits of working for our team include subsidised eye tests and lenses, flu vaccinations, and other well-being initiatives. HBRC also has a strong commitment to developing and upskilling people within a flexible and supportive working environment.
