Transport Strategy & Policy Analyst

About the Opportunity:

Our Transport team is looking for a highly capable and motivated policy professional who has a passion for sustainable transport. This team sits within the wider Policy and Regulation Group and manages Council’s responsibilities as set out in the Land Transport Management Act, the Local Government Act, and any subsequent acts. The delivery of the RoadSafe and Total Mobility functions of Council sit within this team, as does the determination of future strategies and planning for public transport to allow us to meet the ongoing needs of the Hawke’s Bay community.

This newly created role will take the lead on Council plans for all modes of transport in the Hawke’s Bay region. Working with Waka Kotahi and the Territorial Authorities (TAs), the role will be responsible for developing plans at a regional level regarding transport, while ensuring the challenges and complexities of Hawke’s Bay growth are considered. Environmental protection and improvement are paramount to the work that we do so you will need to be able to apply this lens to all that you undertake.

 You will be able to provide effective professional input to the work of the team, while working with your colleagues to support a collaborative and innovative team culture.

 Ideally you will be someone who:

  • Holds a relevant Bachelor’s degree or equivalent tertiary qualification.
  • Has an understanding of the relevant Transport Acts and amendments and demonstrated experience in integrated transport.
  • Is confident working in partnership with tāngata whenua to deliver planning projects and can engage effectively with stakeholders from various backgrounds and professions.
  • Can provide robust transport planning support and undertake implementation and evaluation processes in order to ensure project milestones and objectives are achieved.
  • Has a proactive and innovative way of approaching problems and finding solutions.

 Some experience in policy development and/or local government experience would be an advantage to you in this role.

 

The salary range for this role is between $77,940 to $86,600 and will depend on the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate.
