Project Engineer - 2 Year Fixed Term

The Hawke’s Bay Regional Council is seeking a qualified Project Engineer to provide day to day management of infrastructure projects within our region. This is a fixed term role for 2 years and has been specifically created to assist with regional infrastructure development due to the COVID-19 pandemic and to support boosting our local economy. The projects in this portfolio are part of the Infrastructure Reference Group’s climate resilience programme, specifically targeted around erosion protection works and increasing the levels of service within our local rivers. This exciting role will give the right candidate an opportunity to be a key contributor to our Regional Projects team.

 

About the Opportunity:

We are looking for someone with the ability to build and maintain strong and meaningful relationships with our various stakeholders. You will have excellent interpersonal skills, be pro-active, self-motivated and enthusiastic! The position will require you to demonstrate a commitment to health and safety in the workplace, plus take a high level of initiative. Ideally you will have proven experience in leading projects and managing contractors.

The key objectives of the role are:

  • Develop and manage construction contracts (NZS3910) with both inhouse construction resources and the external contracting industry.
  • Manage infrastructure projects through their full lifecycle from activation to closeout managing designers and constructors to handover.
  • Preparation of tender document and assessments
  • Management, surveillance, and quality assurance of construction projects

To be successful in this role you will be able to demonstrate the following:

  • Bachelor’s in civil engineering (or equivalent)
  • Practical knowledge of project management frameworks, systems, and practices
  • Previous experience with Environmental Engineering would be desirable
  • Practical understanding of contract documentation (NZS3910)
  • Sound computer skills with MS Office and project management tools

The salary range for this role will depend on the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate.
