The report of the Hawke’s Bay Independent Flood Review into Cyclone Gabrielle and its impacts on Hawke’s Bay was officially received by the Regional Council on 24 July 2024.

A message from Hinewai Ormsby, Hawke's Bay Regional Council Chair

Kia ora tatou,

On Wednesday, 24 July, our Council received the deeply significant report from the Hawke’s Bay Independent Flood Review, which looked into the impacts of Cyclone Gabrielle on our community.

The meeting where we received the report from Dr. Phil Mitchell, Bernadette Arapere, and Kyle Christensen was both moving and profound. It was clear that their work represents more than just findings; it embodies our collective journey through a challenging time.

We have chosen to honour this report as a taonga, a treasured gift. This report will guide us and our future efforts for many years ahead, helping us navigate the path toward recovery and resilience.

Āku mihi aroha ki a koutou - My heartfelt appreciation to you all.

Hinewai Ormsby
