This Committee considers matters relating to risk management, assurance activities, and governance oversight including external reporting and audit matters and makes recommendations to Council.

The purpose of the Risk and Audit Committee is to provide advice and recommend actions, responses and changes to the Council about risk management, assurance activities, governance oversight and internal control matters, including external reporting and audit matters. Specifically this includes the following matters:
The robustness of Council’s risk management systems, policies, practice and assurance processes.
The appropriateness of controls to safeguard the Council’s financial and non-financial assets, the integrity of internal and external reporting and accountability arrangements.
Review the Council’s revenue and expenditure policies, amongst others, and the effectiveness of those policies in ensuring limited risk is generated.
Assurance on the independence and adequacy of internal and external audit functions.
Council’s compliance with applicable laws, regulations, standards and best practice guidelines.
We webcast and record all Council meetings, so that people can be informed about the debate and decision-making.

We encourage members of the public to attend all Council and Committees meetings. These are held in the Council Chamber at 159 Dalton Street, Napier unless otherwise noted.
The Chairperson will ask members of the public to leave if and when the meeting moves into a public excluded section of the meeting.
