About the project

Proposed solutions include the construction of stopbanks and bunds, stormwater drainage, and stream works including tree clearance and erosion protection.

This project will ensure that 11 Category 2C properties in Ōhiti Road, Omāhu move to Category 1.

Latest update | March 2025 

In March, we focused on community consultation and advancing two projects on Ohīwia Stream to improve its ability to handle water flow during heavy rain. A karakia and cultural induction marked the start of the works. Te Piringa Hapū prepared a Cultural Impact Assessment to ensure cultural and environmental values are respected during the works, protecting the mauri of Ohīwia Stream while enhancing its resilience and ecological health. After further engagement next month, we will have a preferred flood resilience solution for detailed design, planning, consent, and construction. Project progress

Initiate

This phase includes identifying stakeholders, risks, optioneering, site investigations, project briefing and initial budgeting.

Plan (Current Phase)

This phase includes cultural and stakeholder engagement, site investigations (including Geotech, archaeological and ecological assessments, topographic survey), design work, and land access.

Execute

This phase includes contract activities, management, surveillance and Quality Assurance (MSQA), producing technical reports, and the practical completion of the work.

Close out

This phase covers the handover and review activities, with final approval from the project sponsors.
