Water Hub

Freshwater is Hawke's Bay's most precious and valuable natural resource. Nothing else plays such a critically important role in the social, economic and environmental future of our region and its people.

This hub provides quick links to all our water related information.

Why is water so important?

The well-being of our communities and our people depends on how we manage our freshwater resources. We can break water up into various uses – drinking water, waste water, water for recreational use – but there is really only one water which we must treat with respect and manage in an integrated way.

Freshwater is so vital to our region and our well-being that its management makes up nearly three quarters of the Regional Council’s work. We have made good progress on securing safe supplies of drinking water and are actively cleaning up and protecting our streams and rivers from pollutants and erosion, but our freshwater resources are under increasing pressure and more action is needed.
