School Holidays Teach Safer Boating Skills
School holiday programmes in Napier and Hastings will see around 300 children learn safer boating skills.
HBRC Harbourmaster Martin Moore plus Elisha and Earl Wykes from Stand Up Paddleboarding HB will be visiting a school a day with a boat, lifejackets and other safety equipment.
Children at holiday programmes will be able to get in the boat, practice fun, safe boating drills and learn practical lessons about surviving in open water.
The holiday programme with Herbi and Bosun comes ahead of Safer Boating Week which is a national campaign running through 13 – 20 October.
“The school holiday programme has developed out of the free programme we offer to schools each summer, and it’s a great opportunity for children to learn how to be safe ahead of summer,” said Martin Moore, Harbourmaster.
There are still opportunities for schools to take advantage of the school boating safety programme over summer term time, and they can contact the Harbourmaster.
