All members of the public are welcome to join meetings live on our Hawke’s Bay Regional Council Facebook page or can be viewed on YouTube afterwards. Agendas and briefing papers are available here.

Unless otherwise specified meetings will be held in Council Chambers at 159 Dalton Street, Napier.

Meetings and agendas

An important role for the Hawke's Bay Regional Council is in developing, implementing and reviewing policies for managing the region's resources. Our policies are developed from legislation, from research and knowledge of resources, and through consultation with resource users, conservation groups, tangata whenua and the community.

Regional Council and Committees have scheduled meetings (see below) are where Council’s plans and strategies are developed and debated. These are open to the public and are also live webcast (see links below), except where items of business specifically exclude the public.

Agenda papers contain useful information and background reports on many aspects of our work - these are available in advance of all meetings (click on HTML or PDF to open). Note that 'excluded' papers are those which were not initially contained in the main agenda document (it does not mean 'public excluded').

Meeting dates and times are published in Hawke's Bay Today, and are generally scheduled as follows.

  • Regional Council - usually the last Wednesday of each month (except March and December)
  • Maori Committee - usually the second Tuesday of every second month
  • Corporate and Strategic - four times a year
  • Cyclone Recovery - generally every second month
  • Regional Planning - generally every first Wednesday of each month
  • Regional Transport Committee - four times per year
  • HB Civil Defence Emergency Management Group - as required, usually twice a year.

Workshops

At times the Council will meet to receive detailed information or to have discussion on a subject without making decisions in a more informal environment. The Council by default invites members of the public to come along to view these workshops in person in Council Chambers at 159 Dalton Street Napier (unless specified otherwise).

Times, topics and dates for upcoming workshops are included in the calendar above and agendas for these are made available here as soon as is practicable (this may not always be prior to the workshop date due to the way in which this material is produced) as well as notes from workshops.

On occasion as with meetings there may be a need to exclude the public from attendance. Prior to arranging a workshop staff will assess the information to be discussed or presented in terms of of the Local Government and Official Information and Meeting Act 1987, where it specifies reasons for withholding official information. If it is necessary and complies with these reasons staff will make a determination to exclude the public.

Where the public are to be excluded, the workshop and topic will still be included in the calendar above which will also include the reason for the determination.

Agendas and notes from these workshops will not be made immediately available - but will be able to be released where the reason used to determine to exclude the public is no longer relevant and no other reason for withholding information applies.
