Policy Planner Vacancy 18-921

101259Hawke's Bay Regional Council now has two opportunities for a Policy Planner and Senior Policy Planner to join their Strategic Planning team in Napier, NZ, on a full-time basis.Reporting to the Manager Policy Planning, these roles are primarily responsible for contributing to Council’s challenging and varied resource management policy and plan development programme.The Senior Planner will also be involved with various policy and planning implementation processes, working within a number of project teams to coordinate resource management and policy development initiatives. This role focuses on the preparation of regional catchment plans that will improve the management of land and freshwater resources. 

The successful candidates will hold tertiary qualifications in Resource Management Planning or similar, along with demonstrated post-graduate experience in a similar role.

As these roles revolve around natural resource management policy planning and NZ legislation (primarily the Resource Management Act), Council is looking for candidates with a background in successfully evaluating and developing policy, as well as a solid understanding of the local government planning process.

Importantly, Council is looking for someone with exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, including confidence in liaising and engaging with a variety of stakeholders and tangata whenua. With change being a constant in this environment, you'll also need to be flexible, adaptable and innovative in your approach. The ability to identify areas of policy improvement and implement better processes will be crucial.

While experienced candidates are preferred, Hawke's Bay Regional Council will accept applications from graduates provided you have Resource Management qualifications and a desire to grow your career in this space. 

Individuals applying for the Senior position will require strong policy project management skills, including the ability to coordinate tasks and work programmes across a variety of teams and subject matters. You'll be a 'larger picture' thinker, with the ability to see beyond your own horizons and take into account multiple areas of expertise that work together for a coordinated outcome.
