Regional Marine Oil Spill Contingency Plan
The full version of the Hawke’s Bay Regional Marine Oil Spill Contingency Plan is available as a PDF in sections as listed below, apart from Annex 2 which contains personnel contact details.
Hawke’s Bay Regional Council has a statutory responsibility under the Maritime Transport Act 1994 (MTA) to conduct a Tier 2 response to marine oil spills that occur within the coastal marine area under our jurisdiction. As part of this responsibility, and in accordance with the MTA, we are required to maintain a plan which details how a Tier 2 response operation is to be undertaken in response to a marine oil spill.
The current plan was adopted by Council at its meeting on the 24 September 2014 after being approved by the Director of Maritime New Zealand on 15 August 2014.
This plan is laid out as pdf documents in four sections below:
- Operations Section – which guides the overall response for a oil spill in Hawke’s Bay. Document can be found here.
- Generic National Chapters – A link to Chapters 1-16 of the National Plan which set out the common oil spill response techniques and information for New Zealand as prepared by Maritime New Zealand.
- Regional Annexes - Annexes 1 – 8 (listed below) set out equipment and resources available within Hawke’s Bay in responding to a spill, together with identification of sensitive coastal areas and coastal information including priority areas for protection in the event of an oil spill
